The Vision of Escaflowne
Tenkuu no Escaflowne
Hitomi Kanzaki is an ordinary school girl with a crush on her track-team classmate Amano. One day after class, she witnesses something incredible - a portal to another world brings forth a young man fighting a monstrous creature. Hitomi is caught up in their battle and finds herself being pulled back to their homeworld, a land known as Gaea. At a glance, Gaea is a medieval world, but as Hitomi Discovers, it is also filled with advanced technology like airships and robotic mecha. She soon learns the young man is named Van Fanel, prince of the Kingdom of Fanelia, who gives her shelter back at his castle.
As Hitomi searches for a way back to Earth, known on Gaea as the Mystic Moon, her latent psychic powers emerge, drawing her into the ongoing war being waged by the Zaibach Empire. When the Kingdom of Fanel is destroyed, she flees along with Van and his legendary Guymelef mecha, Escaflowne. Even as Hitomi meets other people, including the elite knight Allen Crusade Schezar, who bears a striking resemblance to Amano, her path to return home begins to overlap more and more with Van's quest to rid Gaea of the Zaibach Empire.
