In a world where each person's status is determined by a Count that appears on their body, this number can be raised or lowered by succeeding or failing at their own pre-determined discipline. If a person's Count is reduced to zero, they are dragged off to the Abyss by terrifying monsters, never to be heard from again. Leaving her isolated home for the first time, Hina ventures into the dangerous world outside to fulfil her mother's last request - to find the Legendary Ace who will be marked by a white star. After searching for five long years, Hina's journey brings her to a strange man named Licht who somehow has survived with an incredible negative Count.
