Mugen Train Arc
The Flame Hashira Rengoku has been sent to investigate a series of attacks by a mysterious "Slasher". An attack on the Mugen train has left many dead and missing, but it leads him to a powerful demon underling. With the real culprit still at large, Tanjiro and the others board the restored Mugen train to find the true enemy still hiding in the shadows.

| Flame Hashira Rengoku is called upon to investigate the mysterious slayings around the Mugen Train. His weakness to tasty food leads him right to woman and her granddaughter running a bento stand. With his hunger sated, he travels to the facility where the train is undergoing repairs. A lesser demon in hiding makes his escape by taking a hostage. When he recognizes the meal that Rengoku is carrying, the demon threatens to use his super-human speed to slay the two vendors back at the train station. Rengoku's own burst of speed owed to his fire concentration breathing allows the Flame Hashira to arrive just in time. When the grandmother witnesses his unforgettable technique, she recognizes Rengoku's father as the Demon Slayer who saved her life over 20 years ago. |

| The Mugen Train departs once again with Tanjiro and company aboard. Tanjiro takes the opportunity to ask Rengoku about the flame technique used by his own father as a fire dancer but their conversation is cut short by the presence of a demon. Despite his harmless demeanor, Rengoku dispatches the demon in a flash. Another demon makes his move but meets a similar fate. When they settle back down into their seats, the train continues to run its course and the passengers begin to fall asleep. This unnatural slumber is the work of Enmu, who intends to harvest the souls of the sleeping victims with the help of his underlings. |

| Enmu's minions enter the dreamers' minds with the aid of magical ropes. Their objective is to destroy the sleeper's hidden spiritual core, which will end the dream along with the victim's life. Though Rengoku is able to resist his attacker without awakening, Tanjiro and friends don't fare so well. Each is placated by their own blissful fantasy, and Tanjiro is reunited with his family once again. Back in the world of the waking, Nezuko curiously breaks free from her box and headbutts Tanjiro when he doesn't show her any attention. Tanjiro finds the strength to break away from his reunion and guided by his father's spirit, decides to make one single cut with his sword to put an end the dream. |

| Tanjiro awakens after cutting his own neck and Nezuko severs the ropes binding the others to their dreams. Unable to wait for them to awaken, Tanjiro follows the demonic scent to the front of the train where he encounters Enmu. The demon wastes no time in using his sleep technique once again but to his dismay, it seems to have no effect on Tanjiro. Enmu quickly realizes that Tanjiro is rapidly cutting his own neck every time he is sent back to his dream world. Without his trump card, Enmu falls to Tanjiro's blade but he has one more trick up his sleeve. |

| Now that Enmu is fused with the train, he wastes no time in harvesting the lives of every passenger on board. Inosuke awakens first and leaps into action to help Tanjiro at the locomotive while Rengoku, Zenitsu and Nezuko defend the passengers from Enmu's grasp. Enmu is able to rapidly regenerate so Tanjiro and Inosuke are forced to coordinate their attacks to break through his defenses and finally sever Enmu's neck. |

| The Mugen Train crashes off the rails, leaving all passengers alive. Rengoku congratulates Tanjiro but cautions him that there are many more steps left in his journey. Their rest is soon interrupted by an incredibly powerful demon, the Upper Three Akaza. Rengoku faces him alone with the others forced to simply watch. They are evenly matched in strength and speed but Akaza's instant regeneration forces Rengoku to get in close where is vulnerable to his opponent's deadly punches. |

| Though he suffers a fatal strike, Rengoku fights Akaza until the morning sun begins to rise. When the demon attempts to flee, Rengoku holds him in place but his waning strength eventually gives out and an injured Tanjiro isn't able to stop him. With his dying breaths, Rengoku has a final conversation with Tanjiro. |
