In the summer of her second year in middle school, Ayai Yume confessed her feelings to classmate Irido Mito, and they started dating. Initially, they were happy together, but misunderstandings led to their breakup before graduation. Two weeks later, Mito's dad and Yume's mom, both single parents, got married, making Mito and Yume step-siblings with the same last name, Irido. They moved in together but decided to keep their past relationship a secret for their parents' sake.
As they entered high school together, they met three classmates: Kawami Kogure, who wanted to spark a romance between them; Minami Akatsuki, who had a crush on Yume; and Higashiguchi Isana, who liked Mito. Their situation became more complicated with romantic entanglements, especially since Kogure and Akatsuki had dated in middle school, and Isana was rejected by Mito.
While the Irido family settled in Mizuto's father's hometown, Yume discovered Mizuto's past and feelings, which she had been unaware of during their relationship. Realizing her feelings for him still lingered, she decided to move on from her past and pursue a new relationship with Mizuto as Irido Yume.
