In Vienna 1907, a grand birthday party is thrown for Princess Flora. Many suitors come to propose, including Phoenix, a charming jewel thief eyeing the princess's precious ring, called the Smile of the Amazon. He suggests Flora’s beauty relies on the ring, angering her. In a fit, she drops the ring into a fish and tosses it out the window, shocking everyone. Meanwhile, young Honey Honey, an orphan waitress, watches her cat, Lily, eat the fish and unknowingly swallow the ring. Since Flora has promised her hand to whoever returns the ring, suitors and Phoenix rush to find Lily and Honey.
Phoenix finds them and helps them hide. Honey shares her story of growing up in a convent and how she and Lily became friends. Phoenix offers to buy Lily, but Honey, unaware of the ring's fate, refuses and runs away. They hide in a hot-air balloon that takes off, with Phoenix and the suitors in pursuit. Their adventure leads them to cities like Paris, New York, and Tokyo, where Honey falls for Phoenix while trying to keep Lily safe from the selfish princess.
