The One Year War concluded, and while the Earth Federation Forces celebrated their victory over the Principality of Zeon, they continued to encounter resistance from the remaining Zeon forces. To eliminate this threat, the Titans were created to track them down. Largely unregulated, the Titans committed atrocities that could rival those of Zeon during the war.
In response, the AEUG was formed, mainly consisting of Federation officers and soldiers who resented the Titans. Char Aznable, who was hiding among the Federation Forces, also joined the AEUG under the alias Captain Quattro Bajeena.
Side 7 was rebuilt as Green Oasis. There, Kamille Bidan lived with his childhood friend Fa Yuiry. Kamille's parents worked as engineers on the new Gundam development project, but he experienced a troubled childhood. After a confrontation with Jerid Messa, a new officer of the Titans, Kamille was arrested on suspicion of assaulting Jerid. However, he escaped the base after a Gundam Mk-II crashed during flight training. Meanwhile, Char, assigned to conduct reconnaissance of the military base, attempted to infiltrate the colony alone. Aware of the Mk-II's existence, Char decided to seize the machine and, accompanied by two subordinates, re-entered in a Rick Dias. Taking advantage of the chaos, Kamille took control of the Mk-II to retaliate against the overbearing military police. Char, determining that the Mk-II pilot did not intend to resist them, fled Green Oasis with Kamille and two Mk-IIs as a gift. Thus, following the Gundam theft incident, the AEUG and the Titans entered into a full-scale conflict.
