Maria, affectionately known as Mimi, is the fifth daughter of the Duke Annovazzi, a respected martial arts lineage in the Kingdom of Muro. She was groomed to be the heir, but when her younger brother was born when she was 15, she was taken out of the line of succession. With all the eligible noble sons already engaged to her four older sisters, and having not received a proper lady's education, Maria felt she was already past her prime. So, she decided to lean on her relatives and study abroad in the neighboring great kingdom of Rubini to find a husband.
Out of the blue, she learned about a broken engagement from Renato, the first prince of Rubini. He meant to inform Aida, his fiancée, but mistakenly told Maria instead, as she closely resembled Aida. Renato's true aim was to leverage a recent incident in the kingdom to end Aida's forced engagement and pass her fiancée status to his younger brother, Placido. Surprisingly, After working together with Renato to resolve the incident, Maria received a marriage proposal from him.
